News: we are making posters, there is a big show at the DAM and we should all meet up at Pints Pub 4pm

Get this: We are producing posters for Blitzen Trapper show March 12 and DSO March 26th. No bullshit. We got permission from the bands, got some artwork and are working with a local kickass printer (Ray at goodthoughts4all.com, you rule) to get it done for us. Unbelieveable that we were just a few collectors a few months ago and now we are doing posters for a few of our favorite bands already.

Luckily Josh & Luke's mom (and friends) at LaDeeDa are amazing artists who jumped on these projects as well.....she's got a great eye and they are on a roll with 60s era type posters with her own twists. Prett damn cool....Once we figure out a sustainable model (so we don't lose our shirt on every printing) we'll be doing this for more shows coming up....just got to survive these first few.

If any of you clowns want a copy of either poster send me a message and we'll work something out. Hoping to sell out but we may hold back a few for anyone interested...Or just come to the damn shows, they will rock.....LaDeeDa will be in attendance at the DSO show.

Speaking of 60s Fillmore posters, there is a show at the Denver Art Museum starting March 21st. We are thinking of meeting up after the show Saturday afternoon at like 4p.....anyone game? Artists panel is 1:30-3:30 so I figured 4pm would be a good time to meet some collectors in your hood....Pints Pub is around the corner from DAM at 221 W 13th...2 blocks away.

In conjunction with the opening of The Psychedelic Experience:
Rock Posters from the San Francisco Bay Area, 1965-71

3 Artists, 1 Moderator-The Artists' Panel Super Session

Saturday, March 21, 2009

Get ready to take a trip on this aesthetic magic carpet ride. Spend an afternoon in the company of four accomplished poster artists from The Psychedelic Experience. Wes Wilson, Stanley Mouse and Lee Conklin share what it was like to create psychedelic rock posters amidst the pressures of disparate personalities, deadlines, drugs, rock 'n' roll and a culture of free love. The Psychedelic Experience

Rock Posters from the San Francisco Bay Area, 1965–71

Opens March 21, 2009

Take a trip back in time with approximately 300 psychedelic posters—as well as album covers, underground newspapers, and other items—from the late 1960s and early 70s, an era of free love, rock music, and experimental design.

The Psychedelic Experience: Rock Posters from the San Francisco Bay Area, 1965–71 includes works by the psychedelic poster movement’s major contributors, like Wes Wilson, Bonnie MacLean, Alton Kelley, Stanley Mouse, Victor Moscoso, Rick Griffin, Lee Conklin, and David Singer.

Learn about the history of the movement and the contributions of individual artists, from Wes Wilson’s reproduction of the flowing forms of the liquid light shows to the grotesque quality of Lee Conklin’s work. And experience the sights and sounds of the era through video, music, and interactive activities.

The Psychedelic Experience opens March 21 and continues through July 19. Exhibition tickets will be available March 6 for DAM members, March 13 for nonmembers.

Colorado Gigposter Club

Welcome! Well I figured 2009 will be a big year for collecting here in Colorado, so I wanted to create a local repository for upcoming shows, events and posters. Don't get me wrong, I love my Expressobeans.com and Gigposters.com however I feel there are enough of us here in Colorado to get a local movement going....

Personally I have a few goals for this club

1. Club meeting or event 4 times per year before a show of our choice ---> All local collectors, sellers, websites, music enthusiasts welcome

(1st meeting/show tentatively Thursday, March 26th 5-8pm prior to Dark Star Orchestra show, possibly prior to Boulder shows as well)

2. Support our local poster artists and businesses in every way possible, everyone is welcome to get involved ---> attend art openings, promote local websites, informal rock art education, music/art appreciation parties, volunteer with RocktheEarth, etc

3. Commission a poster or two! Let's do some fundraising, find a willing artist and start making some posters....maybe we get good at it and start doing it on our own!
